“FIN and FITNESS” was the name of the grant received by Julie Grissom, Physical Education teacher at North Central.  Indiana is tied with the state of Kansas for the 15th fattest state in America.  The Physical Education and Fitness curriculum at North Central High School is totally fitness based, and students are taught a very extensive curriculum that includes instruction in many areas of fitness. Seven hundred students enroll in Physical Education each semester along with one hundred Fitness students, and all are required to take swimming as well as engage in a rigorous cardiovascular fitness program.  The equipment purchased with the Foundation funding is being used by all Physical Education and Fitness students every semester and is helping the students increase their fitness levels as well combat the obesity problem we have in the United States.

“FIN and FITNESS” was funded by WTSF in the Fall 2011 grant cycle.
