Creativity meets discovery at Learning Under the Sun!
A staple in our community since 1985, Learning Under the Sun continues to grow stronger each year thanks to generous support from partners like the Scientech Foundation. In 2026, campers also experienced unforgettable field trips to some of Indiana’s top destinations, including Marengo Cave, Newfields, Wolf Park, Butler University, and Mounds State Park.
Held at Willow Lake Elementary, students in grades 4–8 from all Washington Township elementary schools explored this year’s theme, “The Art of Science,” blending creativity with problem-solving through hands-on experiences. Students made the connection between visual arts and science while investigating ocular anatomy and beading bracelets in binary code, then explored sensory science by making their own rain sticks and calming jars.
Thanks to an $8,500 donation from the Scientech Foundation, aspiring young scientists in Washington Township had the chance to attend the STEM enrichment camp, regardless of income.
