Dr. Jennifer Satterfield-Siegel
NCHS CLASS OF 1983
As Indy gears up for the Brickyard 400, one North Central alumnus is helping change the landscape of racing as the first African-American female NASCAR touring series car owner. Meet Dr. Jennifer Satterfield-Siegel, pediatric dentist and co-owner/manager of Rev Racing!
Q&A
What are you up to now?
I went into private practice in 1999 with Special Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. I was certain by the time I was a junior in high school that I would be a pediatric dentist. The thought of helping children receive dental care and making it fun intrigued me. For more than 25 years, I have done just that! I have tried to make dentistry fun and less intimidating for both children and parents.
My husband, Max, and I co-own and manage Rev Racing. Since 2009, we’ve made a national impact with involvement in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program. We are committed to training minorities and women for the sport and have worked with notables like Kyle Larson, Bubba Wallace, and Daniel Squarez. We also train pit crew members. As NASCAR continues to diversify its landscape, we look for ways to increase opportunities for diverse drivers and pit crew members. Being the first African-American female NASCAR touring series car owner and sponsor has allowed me to impact an entire sport and culture.
How did North Central impact and shape who you are today?
There is so much support at North Central. No one told me I couldn’t do it with my dreams of being a pediatric dentist. There was so much diversity in race, ethnicity, religion and levels of academic achievement. North Central helped me socially relate and interact with all types of people and that helps me in my profession today. I am very comfortable with any group and finding community with others.
WHAT IS your favorite memory from North Central?
There are so many! One that is memorable for me was when I won Homecoming Queen. I was so surprised when they called my name. It all folds together because I loved life as a teenager. I have many friendships over the years and that is special to me. We had our 40th reunion last year and my husband and I spent so much time catching up with old friends, we barely made it inside the venue.
