Q&A

What are you up to now?

My husband and I have spent our married life in Indianapolis with our three kids and beloved dog. Our oldest son is a 2024 NC grad; we also have a son who is a junior at North Central High School and a daughter in 8th grade at Eastwood Middle School, which keeps us very happily still involved in Washington Township! I am a landscape architect and own a small business called Rooted Design, focusing mainly on residential design and container gardens.

For the past 7 years, I have been involved with the Children’s Museum Guild, an organization that supports the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis through volunteerism and fundraising. Each year, the Guild designs and builds a unique Haunted House; the proceeds from this endeavor help fund the Museum’s programming and community outreach initiatives, which has been such a rewarding experience. Hint, hint – if you haven’t made a trip to the Haunted House in a few years, it’s a great, family-friendly fall activity! Other than that, my husband and I are in a phase of life that largely revolves around our kids and what they have going on. It’s a busy time for sure, but I’m happy to be able to watch my kids grow up in the same community that I did.

How did North Central impact and shape who you are today?

Right out of high school, my answer would have been that my time at NC (aside from building wonderful friendships) had me thoroughly prepared for navigating college, and later, work; I arrived at IU knowing how to study, how to write a well-structured paper, how to manage deadlines and due dates, etc. It’s been with age and perspective, though, that I’ve realized that the diversity of experiences and traditions that I was exposed to at NC was the most impactful part of my high school education. I credit NC with being foundational to a perspective of the world that is open and empathetic.

WHAT IS your favorite memory from North Central?

This one is hard! There are so many good ones, but I really loved being part of the Northerner staff. When I see friends now that were also part of the yearbook staff in those days, we still laugh about the fun we had. The yearbooks have come a LONG way!
