Panthers Return Home

For Panther alumni who once roamed the hallways as students, the decision to return to Washington Township Schools as staff members, parents or donors is a full-circle moment in their personal and professional journeys.

Check out these five Panthers who have returned home to Washington Township to make an impact in the very community that shaped their own academic and personal development.

Why did you return to work in Washington Township?

I have always dreamed of working in WT. When the opportunity presented itself, I immediately applied. I was excited to return to the middle school where I attended, and my kids attended and will attend. Everyone has been so welcoming from day one. When I went in to sign my paperwork, they had my yearbook pictures ready to show me and they seemed really invested in me. It definitely felt like I was in the right place.

Why do you send your children to Washington Township schools?

I believe in what WT has to offer. I feel like I received a great education, and I believe that my kids are getting the same opportunities. I have one daughter that has already graduated from NC and another that will graduate this coming school year. I have a little one that will finish up elementary school this school year, and for middle school, will attend Westlane where I work. I love that two of my kids have and will be able to attend school where I work.

Why do you give to the WTSF?

I believe in the mission of the WTSF. I am a donor to be able to give back and support other educators who have projects and activities they need funded.  The WTSF provides a membership for all teachers and counselors to Teachers’ Treasures. It is great having Teachers’ Treasures come to my building so I can get supplies for new students or students in need. I have also been able to provide materials for the groups I run.

Why did you return to work in Washington Township?

From the moment that I got my first teaching job and moved back to Indianapolis, I was always intrigued with the idea of giving back to the District that helped me to grow both academically and personally.  The diverse demographics and phenomenal teachers that get the most out of their students, no matter their racial or socio-economic status, was always something with which I was enamored.  I always loved the creativity and student-centered approach of Washington Township teachers, both when I was a student, and when I was observing instruction as an adult. Working for Washington Township Schools has been even more rewarding than I ever thought it would be, and I am now entering my 11th year working for the district.

Why do you send your children to Washington Township schools?

My son (North Central) and daughter (Early Learning Center) being enrolled in Washington Township schools makes them the third generation in my family to go through Washington Township.  My dad has shared how he had a positive experience growing up here, and I can attest to how academically rigorous and engaging my time at North Central was, which was a nice change of pace from the private school education I had received through 8th grade. This is why I am a firm believer in public education.  Also, I live by the philosophy that if you don’t believe in the students that you teach, or in the work that you and/or your colleagues do, you should not teach in that school or school district.  I see the wonderful work that Washington Township teachers, administrators, and students are doing on a daily basis, and I experience how wonderfully supportive the Washington Township families are. So to me, it’s a no-brainer to send my kids here.

Why do you give to the WTSF?

I know how creative Washington Township teachers are, and how eager they are to create engaging learning environments and opportunities for their students.  I also know how more and more limitations are being put on public school funding. So, I want to do my part in helping as many teachers as possible have the opportunity to set their students up for success.  Plus, with my kids being enrolled in Washington Township schools, I know there will be a nice return on my investment!

Why did you return to work in Washington Township?

When I was getting my teaching degree, I could never picture myself in any other school district besides Washington Township. WT gave me so many opportunities and positive experiences in my K-12 education, and I wanted to help continue that process for future generations. My K-12 experience provided me with many lifelong friends (including my wife!), and such a great foundation for my future. I am so proud to be a Washington Township alumni and hope to inspire that same sense of pride for my students.

Why do you give to the WTSF?

I give as a donor because WTSF provides so much support to our community. I can say personally as a teacher I have experienced the benefits of WTSF, so the least I can do is give a little back. WTSF helped me as a teacher with their DonorsChoose matching program, which allowed me to get a class set of headphones for students to use while in my class. This allowed me to reliably use lessons that involve audio without my kids having to worry about bringing their own headphones.

Why did you return to work in Washington Township?

I teach in this District because it feels like home to me, with its welcoming community and friendly atmosphere. This is what I felt when I attended North Central. The students here are full of curiosity and energy, which makes every day in the classroom a rewarding experience. The District supports creativity and innovation in teaching, allowing me to try new ideas and approaches that keep lessons engaging and fun for my students. Overall, teaching in this district allows me to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives while enjoying a fulfilling career in a supportive environment.

Why do you give to the WTSF?

I am a donor because I believe in investing directly in the education and future of our students. Supporting the District financially allows me to contribute to initiatives that benefit not only my own students, but the entire school community and I believe in Washington Township’s Mission. It’s a way for me to show my appreciation for the opportunities and resources that enhance the learning environment and enrich students’ educational experiences. Ultimately, being a donor allows me to actively participate in shaping a positive educational environment that nurtures growth and achievement for all students.

Why did you return to work in Washington Township?

I graduated from North Central High School as part of the class of 1994. I cherished my educational experience and the relationships I formed within the Washington Township schools. I came back to Washington Township because of my deep affection for the school and the enduring friendships I’ve cultivated over time. As I moved forward, I felt a calling to transition and begin a career within the Washington Township District.

Why did you send your children to Washington Township schools?

I was eager for my children to attend schools within the Washington Township District, and I’m grateful that this desire became reality. My son attended Spring Mill Elementary School, then Westlane Middle School, and eventually graduated from North Central High School in 2016 with a basketball scholarship.

My daughter attended Fox Hill Elementary School, but sadly, she passed away during her fifth-grade year after bravely battling cancer. Throughout this difficult time, we received tremendous support from the school staff and members of the Board. I also want to mention that many of my family members have successfully attended and graduated from Washington Township schools, all benefiting from the exceptional support and curriculum that the district offers.

I firmly believe in the curriculum implemented by the district, which not only provides a strong education but also prepares our children for their future journeys.
