Q&A
What are you up to now?
I am in my eighth year teaching at NCHS. This year, I am teaching Ethnic Studies and US History. Next year, I am excited to add African American History AP to my course schedule. I am also the Junior Class Sponsor. I oversee the Junior Class Council, Junior Spec, Junior Class Apparel, and Prom.
How did North Central impact and shape who you are today?
The diversity at NCHS is unique. As a young leader, I loved the world, people, cultures and places. NC is like a little version of the world with lots of students from various backgrounds. I love that most students enjoy sharing where they are from and their culture. That made NC a special place for me as a student. It is also why I chose to return to NC as a teacher.
NC also taught me that is okay to not do something right the first time. It is important to keep trying and to move in the right direction. You don’t have to be perfect. Just work on progression.
Lastly, NC taught me to lean into the community for support. Ask questions, advocate for yourself and get the help you need.
WHAT IS your favorite memory from North Central?
My favorite memory was on the last day of school as Seniors. We ran through the hallways after the bell rang for the last period. As I was running, I tripped and fell. A friend picked me up and we kept running. It was hilarious. We all met up and had a water balloon fight after school.
