Jeremy Gray

NCHS CLASS OF 1994

As the IU Football team is working towards a historic win in Florida at the National Championship this weekend, Jeremy Gray is representing Washington Township and North Central as a leader within the IU Athletics department. This Senior Associate Athletic Director for Indiana University is an alum of North Central High School and was a part of the class of 1994.

Q&A

What Are you up to TODAY?

I am the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications and Fan Experience at Indiana University, and Executive Director of the Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology.

What IS A HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR work?

Obviously winning big in football or any other sport is a joy. People responding favorably to initiatives that I’ve played a part in developing like the new mascot, rally towel or Cuban Center is very nice too. That said, there is nothing more professionally enjoyable than seeing several former interns, athletes and students I’ve worked with directly go on to meaningful careers in sports.

How did North Central impact and shape who you are today?

I would not have the job that (I have) if it were not for my time at North Central. I was allowed to broadcast roughly 90 basketball games and 20 football games prior to graduating from high school. On the air, I went from terrible, to bad, to average, to being a decent broadcaster. That experience led me to getting broadcasting opportunities at Notre Dame, the Big Ten Network, ESPN Radio, and IU. Through those experiences, I was able to meet my wife, get my first job as an athletic department administrator, start a family, go to graduate school, join the Media School faculty, and become a senior administrator. None of that happens without the opportunities afforded to me at NCHS. Moreover, the North Central experience exposed me to people from a variety of experiences and backgrounds, profoundly shaping my worldview and enriching my life.

WHAT IS your favorite memory from North Central?

North Central is a very special place. There are so many memories to choose from, but if I had to reduce that list to just one, it would be the many laughs shared at Junior Spectacular practices with my friends.
