NCHS CLASS OF 2012

We Grow Panthers means more than preparing students for success after graduation. It means nurturing future leaders, educators, and mentors who choose to give back to the community that helped shape them. For North Central alumna Molly Lee, Washington Township has been a lifelong home. From her days as a student at North Central to winning the Indiana School Counselor Association Trailblazer Award for her work as school counselor at Northview Middle School, Molly’s journey has come full circle. Today, she helps create the same supportive, enriching experiences that helped her grow. Moreover, as a new mother, she is already looking forward to watching the next generation begin their own Washington Township story.

Q&A

What are you up to now?

I am in my 8th year as a school counselor at Northview Middle School. I also was a school counseling intern at NV and a library IA at Eastwood during the 2018-2019 school year!

Personally, my husband and I just had our first baby in April (he taught at Greenbriar Elementary for 9 years until recently making a career shift) and I already can’t wait for her own WT Schools experience.

How did your time at North Central shape who you are today?

North Central impacted who I am today in so many ways. Probably the most top of mind is the lifelong friendships I made there. I still talk to my high school girlfriends every single day. We have now lived over half of our lives together, and they are some of the most amazing and talented women I know. One of my best friends from NC even officiated my wedding!

Beyond the friendships, North Central gave me so many opportunities to grow both academically and personally. My time at NC helped me build confidence and taught me how to connect and work with people from different backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences. I left North Central prepared for college and, eventually, graduate school, not only academically, but with a broader understanding of people and the world around me.

Now, having the opportunity to serve the Washington Township community as a school counselor feels incredibly full circle. So much of who I am was shaped by my own experiences in this district, and getting to help create those experiences for the next generation of students truly feels like coming home.

WHAT IS your favorite memory from North Central?

It is hard to choose one! I think back to a lot of my experiences as an upper classman, when I was feeling more comfortable and connected. I had a big role in a junior spec act, Barbie World and all of junior spec was so much fun.

I was also a copy editor of the yearbook, and got to go to NYC for the first time senior year with the other editors and Mr. Gayda. My best friend Hayley and I led a club called All For Children, where we partnered with local refugee groups to help refugee students feel more integrated into the WT community and raising money for other non-profits across the world. That was my first time really organizing events, gathering community donations, etc. and I learned a lot!

Of course prom, grad dance and Blast Off were also highlights. Oh, and winning state with Descants!
